David Byron, the original vocalist was already a member of pre-Heep group Spice and its predecessor The Stalkers. He is the co-founder of both bands together with guitarist Mick Box. Byron was fired from Uriah Heep in the Summer of 1976, the official explanation was his alcohol abuse but undoubtedly the personal differences between him and Ken Hensley were a strong factor as well. Byron sang on the first nine studio albums and one live album (plus two posthumous live albums have been released), there are also a couple of videos featuring Byron.
